Referral Twilight Registered Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

You’ll join Chestergates Veterinary Specialists, a leading referral hospital expanding its twilight nursing team. This role offers a rare combination: the intellectual challenge of specialist referral work paired with genuinely manageable hours. Working 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM on a 7 days on / 14 days off pattern, you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of disciplines without the burnout of traditional shift patterns.

Your days will span neurology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, and oncology. You’ll be delivering high-level inpatient care in a multidisciplinary environment where support and development are built into the culture. Strong anaesthesia skills are essential, but the hospital recognises that referral nursing is a specialist skill – you’ll receive comprehensive training to develop your expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-level inpatient nursing care across multiple specialist departments
• Manage anaesthesia support for surgical and diagnostic procedures
• Work proactively and independently within a collaborative referral team
• Support patients across neurology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, and oncology
• Contribute to a progressive, supportive nursing culture

Requirements

• Current RVN registration with the RCVS
• Strong anaesthesia skills and confidence in this area
• Proactive approach to inpatient care and multidisciplinary working
• Flexibility and enthusiasm for working across specialist disciplines
• Previous referral or out-of-hours experience is advantageous but not essential

Benefits

• Hourly rate: £16.50–£18.00 depending on experience and qualifications
• Annualised contract with annual leave included in salary
