About the Role

You’ll join Hamilton Specialist Referrals as a Medicine & Neurology Veterinary Nurse, delivering advanced clinical care across both specialisms in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art referral hospital. This full-time or part-time position offers a genuine opportunity to develop specialist nursing expertise in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where your clinical judgement is valued and continuous learning is actively encouraged.

Working a flexible rota pattern, full-time staff work 40 hours across a 6-week rolling schedule: four 9.25-hour weekday shifts plus a 1-in-6 weekend rota (Saturdays and Sundays), with approximately 2 bank holidays per year. The hospital operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so you’ll be part of a team delivering round-the-clock specialist care to complex, rewarding cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver advanced nursing care to a diverse caseload across Medicine and Neurology, supporting complex case management from initial presentation through to discharge
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of Specialists, Referral clinicians, and support staff, contributing expert nursing knowledge to clinical decision-making
  • Provide procedural and diagnostic support including endoscopy, MRI/CT/ultrasound imaging, neurosurgical procedures, and advanced sampling techniques
  • Play a key role in investigations and medical/surgical procedures, leveraging the hospital’s advanced diagnostic facilities
  • Share knowledge with colleagues to continually raise standards within Medicine and Neurology services
  • Demonstrate commitment to evidence-based practice and clinical governance

Requirements

  • Current RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse
  • Significant clinical experience with an interest in medical and neurological cases
  • Experience in a referral or advanced-care setting is advantageous (full training provided for the right candidate)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical governance, and continuous improvement
  • A keen interest in diversifying your clinical skills and specialising in complex patient care

About the Practice

Hamilton Specialist Referrals is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art referral hospital situated just outside High Wycombe (Junction 4, M40) in Buckinghamshire. Part of IVC Evidensia—the UK and Europe’s leading veterinary care group comprising over 900 practices and referral hospitals—the practice delivers world-class specialist treatments for orthopaedic and neurological disease in small animals, supported by an exceptional rehabilitation and physiotherapy facility.

The hospital is home to a dedicated Imaging suite featuring a 16-slice CT scanner, 1.5 Tesla MRI, fluoroscopy, and separate radiography and ultrasound rooms.
