About the Role
Creature Comforts is opening a brand new clinic in Blackheath, and they're seeking an experienced Clinical Director to lead its launch and growth. This is a rare opportunity to build a team within a beautifully designed, purpose-built space while redefining what exceptional veterinary care looks and feels like. You'll spend approximately 80% of your time in clinical work, allowing you to lead by example whilst managing the broader strategic direction of the practice.
As Clinical Director, you'll have autonomy within the Creature Comforts framework to shape the clinic's local strategy. You'll be supported and guided by the leadership team whilst directly managing the vet team, nursing director, and practice director. This is a full-time, permanent role in London's sought-after Blackheath area, offering the chance to build something truly special from its inception.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead clinical excellence, spending 80% of time in direct patient care and ensuring highest standards through strong leadership and team engagement
- Oversee clinical governance, identify performance issues, and implement improvement plans; organise and conduct clinical audits
- Direct education and CPD within the team, committing to evidence-based medicine and identifying new clinical opportunities
- Line manage the practice manager and head nurse; support and develop all direct reports through regular one-to-ones and performance development reviews
- Drive membership and client acquisition; work alongside the membership manager to achieve targets and build client loyalty
- Manage clinic strategy across HR, recruitment, health and safety, marketing, and client care
- Oversee budget planning and financial performance; understand the business model and KPIs that drive it, working within allocated budget to achieve break-even targets
- Champion a culture of wellbeing, respect, and inclusion; identify and address team wellbeing issues early and signpost support where needed
- Represent Creature Comforts in the wider veterinary industry and community; promote the practice's values and ethos in all you do
Requirements
- Registered veterinary surgeon with strong clinical experience and demonstrated leadership capability
- Passion for clinical excellence and evidence-based medicine
- Proven business acumen including budget management, financial planning, and KPI-driven performance
- Experience managing and developing veterinary and nursing teams
- Excellent communication skills; ability to engage with clients, staff, and stakeholders
- Understanding of and genuine passion for the Creature Comforts ethos and model
- Commitment to wellbeing and creating an inclusive, respectful team culture
