About the Role

You'll be joining Crossroads Veterinary Centre, a modern, well-equipped small animal practice serving the High Wycombe area for over 65 years. This is a full-time or part-time nursing position offering flexible working patterns to suit the right candidate. The practice operates across three sites: a main hospital in High Wycombe plus branch surgeries in Hazlemere and Watlington, so a full UK driving licence is essential.

The practice is expanding, with 10 veterinary surgeons, eight qualified RVNs, one Student Veterinary Nurse, and two Patient Care Assistants now on the team. As a training practice, there's real scope to develop mentoring skills and help shape the next generation of veterinary nurses. You'll work a 40-hour week, typically comprising three 8am-8pm shifts and one 8am-1.30pm shift, with Saturday rotas at 1 in 7 (8am-1pm).

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care across theatre, kennels, inpatient care, and nursing consults
• Work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team to support excellent patient and client care
• Take responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first opinion cases and contribute to clinical standards
• Support the ongoing development of patient care within the practice
• Opportunity to support and mentor student nurses as a clinical coach if interested

Requirements

• Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
• Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage workload effectively
• Proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
• Full UK driving licence (required for working across three sites)

About the Practice

Crossroads Veterinary Centre is an established small animal practice with General Practice accreditation from the Practice Standard Scheme (PSS) run by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Founded in 1958, the practice is managed by Clinical Veterinary Directors Simon Cartwright, Denise Kinnard, and Kathryn Miller. The team treats all types of small companion animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, small furry pets, and birds, combining modern comprehensive healthcare with traditional, caring service.

The practice invests in staying abreast of veterinary science developments and is equipped with digital and dental X-ray, abdominal and cardiac ultrasound, endoscopy, rhinoscopy, IDEXX lab machines, TONO-Pen, EPOC, coagulation testing, and access to Vets Now equipment when needed. The team is close-knit and involved in the local community, meeting regularly outside work.
