About the Role
This is a Deputy Manager of Clinical Pathology position within CVS Group plc, supporting the day to day running of the Clinical Pathology service and stepping in as a key contact when the Clinical Pathology Manager is absent. The role combines leadership with hands-on case evaluation and reporting across cytology, haematology, biochemistry and electrophoresis.
You will be working remotely in a UK based role, with remote, office or hybrid options available. The post is permanent and is set at 40 hours per week, although part-time working is considered. The shift pattern is Monday to Friday, 08.30 to 17.30, with some Saturday work required on a rota basis.
The wider laboratory division includes Finn Pathologists and AXIOM Laboratories, and the team is focused on veterinary diagnostic services, research collaboration and ongoing investment in new technologies and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Clinical Pathology Manager with the day to day operation of the service.
- Act as a point of contact for queries and decision making when the Clinical Pathology Manager is unavailable.
- Oversee clinical pathology work including cytology, haematology, biochemistry and electrophoresis reporting.
- Supervise service delivery and help ensure client expectations are met.
- Mentor newly qualified pathologists and support team development.
- Contribute to the clinical pathology residency programme, CPD provision and educational partnerships.
- Help develop the department through research activity and new service opportunities.
- Provide advice, guidance and training to laboratory technicians where needed.
- Support quality assurance activity, including SOP development, EQA, internal QC evaluation and validation of new methods.
- Assist with line management and workload scheduling alongside the Veterinary Team Administrative Manager.
Requirements
- Good communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience in veterinary clinical pathology.
- Experience in digital pathology.
- Current membership of the RCVS.
- Postgraduate training in veterinary clinical pathology, with ACVP, ECVCP or FRCPath.
- Proven experience coaching, mentoring and giving feedback.
- Experience supporting and overseeing professional teams.
- Some knowledge of quality assurance and method validation or assay development.
- Experience designing, developing or delivering CPD.
- A proactive, team focused approach to problem solving.

About the Practice
