About the Role

This Veterinary Surgeon role sits within CVS Vets 24/7, covering twilight and out of hours work at Harris, Hill and Gibbons Veterinary Centre in Trowbridge. It is a permanent night-shift position, and the practice is open to discussing part-time or full-time patterns, including a variety of shift options during the interview process.

You’ll be working with a varied emergency caseload in a first opinion 24/7 small animal hospital. Accommodation is available nearby, and the team already includes Advanced Practitioners in Emergency and Critical Care.

Trowbridge is described as a market town in Wiltshire, with direct rail links to London and access to the Cotswolds, Bath, Stonehenge, Salisbury and Chippenham.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a varied emergency caseload during twilight and night shifts.
• Carry out medical and surgical work within a first opinion 24/7 hospital setting.
• Use diagnostic investigations as part of day-to-day clinical casework.
• Support and contribute to a team-focused out of hours service.
• Work within a clinical culture that encourages shared best practice and decision making.

Requirements

• Qualified Veterinary Surgeon.
• Confident clinical skills.
• Ability to lead on surgical and medical cases.
• Comfortable with diagnostic investigations.
• Willingness to develop further confidence and manage or lead different case types.
• Enjoys mentoring and supporting colleagues.
• Strong client care approach.
• Experienced vet with clinical autonomy and comfort handling a varied caseload.

About the Practice

Harris, Hill and Gibbons Veterinary Centre in Trowbridge is a 24/7 small animal hospital delivering out of hours support to member practices across Wiltshire. The site has been providing a high-quality out of hours service since 2018.

The hospital is equipped with digital x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, EPOC, an in-house lab and blood products. The wider team includes vets, nurses, PCAs and receptionists, and CVS notes that its central HR, recruitment, payroll, IT, finance and procurement teams support the practice behind the scenes.
