ECC Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

You'll be joining Carmarthen Veterinary Centre's dedicated out-of-hours service as an experienced ECC vet. This fixed-term position involves a manageable 1 weekend per month (12-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday), with on-site accommodation available if needed for your nights on call.

The hospital is purpose-built and award-winning, serving a genuinely varied caseload including complex orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries, exotics, and wildlife cases. You'll work alongside 4 other ECC small animal vets and a highly experienced, collaborative nursing and support team. Recent investment includes a CT scanner, and the practice actively encourages clinicians to get involved in clinical discussions and service development. Carmarthen is a historic market town surrounded by countryside and just a short drive from the Welsh coastline, offering excellent access to nature, beaches, and local amenities.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver emergency and critical care consultations and general surgery within the ECC team
• Work collaboratively with 4 ECC vets and the nursing team to manage a varied caseload
• Contribute to clinical decision-making and service development discussions
• Cover 1 weekend per month (Saturday and Sunday, 12-hour shifts)
• Manage complex cases including orthopaedic, soft tissue, exotic, and wildlife presentations

Requirements

• 3+ years' veterinary experience
• Confidence with general consultations and general surgery
• Ability to work effectively as part of a wider clinical team
• RCVS registration
