Veterinary Receptionist

About the Role

Market Cross Veterinary Centre is seeking a Veterinary Receptionist to help keep client care organised, welcoming and efficient. This is a permanent role based in Dalkeith, with 35 hours a week on a varied Monday to Friday shift pattern between 08:30 and 18:00, plus a shared Saturday morning shift from 08:30 to 12:00 on a rota basis.

You will be the first point of contact for clients, supporting a busy reception environment while handling a wide mix of administrative and client-facing tasks. The role also comes with a structured Receptionist Careers Pathway through CVS, offering courses to build confidence, skills and progression.

Key Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls and book appointments
• Respond to enquiries by phone, email and in person
• Welcome and register new clients
• Process insurance forms
• Dispense medication as required
• Take payments accurately
• Support clients with empathy during difficult moments
• Organise patients using the practice system
• Liaise with other veterinary practices when needed
• Handle debt, belongings and refund follow-up calls
• Keep client service warm, professional and consistent

Requirements

• Previous receptionist experience or experience in a demanding, client-focused role is required
• Veterinary reception experience is an advantage
• Strong communication skills
• Genuine empathy and resilience when dealing with emotional situations
• Excellent customer service skills
• Positive teamwork approach
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and database systems
• Right to work in the UK
