Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This Veterinary Surgeon position is based at Attimore in Welwyn Garden City and offers a full-time 40 hour week, with part-time applicants also considered. The rota includes 1:6 Saturday mornings, and there are no out of hours or on-call requirements.

The caseload is currently around 50% consults and 50% surgery, so you will have a balanced mix of medicine and operating. Some sole charge may be required at weekends, and the role suits someone who is confident with primary care work and comfortable managing a varied caseload.

Attimore is described as a small animal specialist practice with a friendly, collaborative team and recently refurbished facilities. The practice includes vets, nurses, PCAs and receptionists, with specialist equipment and support for regular check-ups, routine procedures, surgery and treatment.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle a varied first opinion caseload across consults and surgery.
• Provide primary care OOH consultations, inpatient care, medical work ups and surgery.
• Receive member practice case transfers and manage cases through to treatment.
• Carry out diagnostic investigations and contribute to clinical decision making.
• Support weekend cover, including some sole charge on Saturday mornings.
• Work closely with the wider clinical team, including vets, nurses, PCAs and receptionists.

Requirements

• Experienced Veterinary Surgeon, preferably with 2+ years' experience.
• Strong medical knowledge.
• Experience in routine and emergency surgery.
• Good communication skills.
• A passion for excellent care and client service.
• Confidence to work clinically with autonomy and support the wider team.
