Registered Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

This is a fixed-term maternity cover position offering an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, friendly small animal practice where your clinical skills will be fully utilised and valued. Working part-time across a 25.5-hour week (Monday to Wednesday, 8:30am–6:00pm, with occasional Saturday mornings), you’ll provide comprehensive nursing care to inpatients and outpatients whilst being fully supported by an experienced team. The role includes leading nurse clinics alongside your wider clinical responsibilities.

Donnachie & Townley Veterinary Centre operates two sites across Rugeley and Stafford, serving the local community with a reputation for compassionate, professional care. You’ll be based at the modern Stafford location, which features dedicated surgical and diagnostic facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to inpatients and outpatients across all clinical areas
• Assist with surgical procedures, anaesthesia management, and post-operative recovery
• Manage and maintain accurate clinical records
• Support diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing, and pharmacy duties
• Lead nurse clinics including second vaccinations, microchipping, nail clipping, pre- and post-operative checks
• Communicate effectively with clients, providing education and support
• Maintain a clean, organised, and compliant clinical environment
• Provide occasional reception cover as needed (e.g., lunch breaks)

Requirements

• Fully qualified and registered with the RCVS as a Veterinary Nurse
• Strong all-round clinical nursing skills with proven experience
• Excellent team-working, communication, and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to remain calm, efficient, and proactive under pressure
• Computer literacy and proficiency with veterinary software systems
• Strong time management and organisational skills
• Professional, reliable approach with genuine commitment to animal welfare

About the Practice

Donnachie & Townley Veterinary Surgeons is a trusted, compassionate small animal practice with two locations in Rugeley and Stafford. Established with a long-standing community reputation, the practice prioritises animal welfare and professional service. The Stafford site features comprehensive modern facilities: spacious, separate cat and dog waiting areas, small animal pharmacy, three consultation rooms, fully equipped operating theatre with prep/scrub room, diagnostic imaging suite (digital X-ray and portable ultrasound), specialist dental suite (including dental X-ray and ultrasonic equipment), extensive kennel facilities, and on-site laboratory (biochemistry, haematology analyser, microscope, centrifuge).
