Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a consulting-only small animal veterinary surgeon position in the centre of Edinburgh, ideally worked over 5 days a week from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday. The practice is open to flexibility on the exact hours or days worked, and there is no out of hours work because cover is provided by Evets, the local emergency provider.

You will be joining a progressive and expanding team of 11 vets and 8 RVNs, with a practice that encourages thorough case work ups and ongoing clinical development. The team includes a certificate holder in cardiology and endosurgery, along with special interests in ophthalmology and ultrasound, and the practice is happy to mentor newer vets who want to build confidence and skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consulting-only veterinary care for small animal patients.
• Work as part of a team of 11 vets and 8 RVNs.
• Support thorough case work ups to a high standard.
• Use the practice's diagnostic and imaging facilities, including digital dental x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, ECG, doppler ultrasound, Tonopen, slit lamp, and in-house laboratory equipment.
• Contribute to a collaborative environment with regular team meetings and shared clinical protocols.

Requirements

• You should be a veterinary surgeon with some experience.
• Good communication skills are required.
• Team working skills are important.
• You need the ability to connect well with clients.
• An enthusiasm to further develop your skills and personal goals is expected.

About the Practice

Dundas Veterinary Group is a long established, proudly independent and employee-owned practice in Edinburgh. It has four branches across the city and is based at 99 Dundas Street, with the practice established in the late 1970s when two new town practices were merged. The practice is family owned by Veterinary Surgeons Emma Sharp and Peter Sharp.

The practice provides care for dogs, cats, rabbits and other small animals. Facilities include separate dog and cat wards, an operating theatre, a wide range of surgical equipment, a visiting orthopaedic surgeon, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, a separate dental suite, digital dental radiography, an in-house laboratory, nurse clinics, pet passports and pet exports, veterinary acupuncture, BVA/KC hip and elbow score radiographs, a 24 hour emergency service, and pet health plans.
