Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

You'll be joining a forward-thinking, independent small animal practice that has earned a reputation for putting people first. This full-time or part-time role offers genuine flexibility: each vet has an individually tailored rota designed around their lifestyle, whether that's full hours, part-time, half days, or other arrangements. The out-of-hours commitment is optional and manageable—most colleagues commit to one night per week, with the option to take whole or split weekends.

Based in Truro with a second clinic in Newquay, you'll work with a team of 7 vets, 7 RVNs, and 3 SVNs, all united by clinical excellence and genuine support. The caseload is genuinely varied, and you'll have the autonomy to develop your own clinical interests alongside experienced colleagues whose expertise spans surgery, medicine, general practice, emergency and critical care, and imaging.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality small animal veterinary care across general practice, with the opportunity to develop specialist interests
• Work collaboratively with the existing vet team, RVNs, and SVNs in a supportive, non-hierarchical environment
• Contribute to the out-of-hours rota on a manageable schedule (optional on-call duties, typically one night per week)
• Participate in clinical decision-making with approachable directors who work alongside the team day-to-day
• Support the practice's commitment to clinical excellence and animal welfare

Requirements

• RCVS registration as a veterinary surgeon
• Experience working in small animal practice
• Genuine commitment to collaborative working and high clinical standards
• Willingness to engage with the out-of-hours rota (optional on-call contribution)
• A positive approach to ongoing professional development

• Salary: £60,000 to £70,000 depending on experience and OOH commitment, plus call-out fees and bonuses

About the Practice

Edhen Vets is an independent small animal veterinary practice founded in Truro in 2021, with a second clinic opened in Newquay in 2023. The practice is renowned for being the only South West practice accredited by Flexee, demonstrating a genuine commitment to work-life balance and flexible working. The team includes clinicians with 5 to 10 years of experience, each with their own areas of expertise in surgery, medicine, general practice, emergency and critical care, and imaging.

The practice is well equipped with DR X-ray, ultrasound, comprehensive in-house laboratory, laparoscopy, DR dental X-ray, endoscopy, and bronchoscopy.
