About the Role
Fyrnwy Equine Hospital is a well-established, RCVS-accredited equine referral practice serving Shropshire, Cheshire, North Wales and beyond. You'll be joining a specialist surgical team in a purpose-built facility set in the beautiful Shropshire countryside near the Welsh border, working alongside experienced surgeons, medicine specialists, and a collaborative nursing and intern veterinary team.
This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week) with typical daytime hours Monday–Friday, 08:00–18:00, plus participation in a shared out-of-hours rota. You'll lead a varied and advanced surgical caseload in an environment that genuinely values learning, growth, and excellent patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive elective orthopaedic and soft tissue surgical caseloads
- Manage cases across general and urgent surgical requirements, including colic, dystocia, and synovial sepsis
- Deliver care for broodmares and youngstock as part of the practice's stud work
- Undertake ambulatory lameness examination work alongside surgical duties
- Contribute to the hospital's advanced dentistry surgical caseload
- Participate in the shared out-of-hours rota with the wider team
Requirements
- Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in equine surgery
- Excellent surgical judgement and technical skills across a varied referral caseload
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary clinical setting
- Interest in routine ambulatory lameness work is desirable but not essential

About the Practice
Fyrnwy Equine Clinics was established in 1978 as Bron Fyrnwy Equine Clinic and has grown to a 11-vet specialist equine practice. Since 2003, the practice has operated from a purpose-built site at Baschurch, Shrewsbury, combining both a highly experienced ambulatory equine practice and a fully equipped equine surgical facility. The hospital features a fully-equipped surgical theatre, padded recovery suite with hoist, dedicated standing surgery room, advanced diagnostic imaging including standing MRI, over 20 hospital stables with isolation facilities, and a strong network of referring practices.
