Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a senior small animal position starting in August, ideal for an experienced vet seeking a fulfilling role with real team support and mentorship opportunities. Based at Galedin Vets’ Duns branch in the scenic Scottish Borders, you’ll have the best of both worlds: beautiful rural surroundings with easy access to Edinburgh (just over an hour’s drive).

You’ll work a typical 4.5-day week with built-in flexibility, though the role includes participation in the out-of-hours on-call rota (currently 1 in 8, with 1 in 4 Saturday mornings). Time in lieu is provided for nights and weekend calls, and the practice actively supports career development across the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver first-opinion small animal clinical care with clinical freedom to manage and follow up cases
• Mentor and guide junior colleagues as they develop their clinical skills
• Participate in the shared out-of-hours on-call rota (1 in 8 frequency, 1 in 4 Saturday mornings)
• Work collaboratively with an experienced team of vets who actively share ideas and discuss cases
• Utilise modern diagnostic equipment including digital radiography, dental X-ray, and ultrasound

Requirements

• Experienced veterinary surgeon with a proven track record
• Confidence working as part of an established team
• Strong commitment to excellent clinical care and continuous professional development
• Willingness to mentor junior colleagues
• Full UK veterinary registration
