Veterinary Surgeon, Emergency and Critical Care

About the Role

Vets Now Witham is welcoming applications from Veterinary Surgeons with a passion for Emergency and Critical Care. This part-time position is focused on backshifts, with a 4-week rolling rota that includes weeknight backshifts, weekend backshifts and a fair share of bank holidays.

The rota runs across Friday, Saturday and Sunday in week 1, Monday in week 2, Monday plus Friday, Saturday and Sunday in week 3, and Monday in week 4. Shift times are typically 7pm to 12am Monday to Friday, and 4pm to 12am on Saturdays and Sundays.

You will often work as the second vet on shift, giving you the chance to share knowledge and handle more complex cases alongside colleagues. The role is supported by ongoing mentorship and access to professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide emergency and critical care support in a busy out-of-hours setting.
• Work backshifts across a 4-week rolling rota, including weekdays, weekends and bank holidays.
• Act as the second vet on shift for more complex cases.
• Contribute to a collaborative and supportive ECC team environment.
• Take part in case-based learning and ongoing professional development.

Requirements

• Qualified Veterinary Surgeon.
• A passion for Emergency and Critical Care.
• Interest in an unusual and challenging caseload.
• Willingness to work part-time backshifts on the rota described.

The practice is located between Chelmsford and Colchester, with access via the A12. The role is based in an ECC setting and is focused on out-of-hours emergency work.
