Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal

About the Role

This Veterinary Surgeon role offers up to £60,000 FTE DOE within a single-site first-opinion small animal practice in Leyton. The rota is built around 30 hours across 3 to 5 days, with an earliest start of 8:00 AM, a maximum of two 7:30 PM late finishes each week, a 1:3 Saturday rota from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, no OOH, and very limited sole charge.

You will be joining Midland Veterinary Surgery, a close-knit team with 5 vets, 4 RVNs, 1 SVN, 1 care assistant and a supportive reception team. The practice places value on case continuity, contextualised care and an open-door culture, with on-site management support on every shift.

Clinical interests are welcomed, whether yours are in surgery, consults or complex medical work. The practice is equipped with dental X-ray and ultrasound, and also has visiting ultrasonographer, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeon support for more complex cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out first opinion consultations, medical workups and routine surgical procedures, aligned to your clinical strengths.
• Manage a varied small animal caseload with strong case continuity.
• Use in-house diagnostics, dental X-ray and visiting specialist support as part of case management.
• Contribute to clinical governance and share ideas that support patient care, team education and contextualised treatment planning.
• Work the stated rota of 30 hours over 3 to 5 days, including Saturday mornings on a 1:3 basis.

Requirements

• A veterinary degree and RCVS registration, or eligibility to register.
• Clinical practice experience with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective client and colleague relationships.
• A proactive attitude toward learning, feedback and development.
• Professionalism, reliability and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
