Registered Veterinary Nurse - Surgery

About the Role

This full-time Registered Veterinary Nurse position sits within the surgical team at Moorview Referrals, a purpose-built referral hospital in Cramlington, Northumberland. The practice is ideally located near the stunning North East coastline and vibrant Newcastle, offering a modern facility equipped with four operating theatres (one with fluoroscopy), CT and MRI scanners, multiple ultrasound machines, and advanced endoscopy equipment.

You'll work a flexible 40-hour rota between 8am and 8pm, choosing either five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts to fit your lifestyle. A 1:5 weekend rota (two 12-hour shifts with TOIL) and bank holiday cover complete the schedule. This is a collaborative environment where you'll be fully supported to develop your skills within a large, friendly clinical team delivering exceptional patient care across orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neurology, internal medicine, ECC, and cardiology.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to surgical patients, working collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider team
• Perform diagnostic imaging including CT and radiography
• Monitor anaesthesia during procedures
• Support patient recovery and prepare patients for theatre
• Scrub in to procedures where required
• Take responsibility for nursing care of first opinion cases and contribute to maintaining clinical standards
• Support the ongoing development of patient care practices within the hospital

Requirements

• Current registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
• Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
• Good organisational skills and effective workload management
• Proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
• Experience in surgery, anaesthesia (including complex cases), and out-of-hours work is advantageous
• Referral experience is highly desirable but not essential
