Senior Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

Join The Woodley Vet as a Senior Veterinary Nurse and take on a leadership role within a friendly, close-knit practice. You'll be working daytime only (4 x 10-hour shifts, 8am to 7:30pm) on a full-time or part-time basis, allowing flexibility to suit your lifestyle. The practice is modern and well-resourced with three consulting rooms, a dedicated theatre, digital X-ray, brand-new ultrasound, and dental X-ray facilities. You'll be part of a collaborative team of 2.5 FTE Veterinary Surgeons, one RVN, one SVN, two Receptionist/Animal Nursing Assistants, and an experienced Practice Manager, located in a convenient area with off-street parking nearby.

This role sits at the heart of clinical delivery: you'll lead by example, mentor the nursing team through their professional development, and help shape the practice's clinical standards and workflows. Whether running nurse consultations (post-op checks, weight management, puppy and kitten clinics, senior pet care), supporting inpatient care, or driving quality improvement initiatives, you'll have genuine influence over how the team works and grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care across theatre, inpatient care, diagnostics and medical cases
• Run a range of nurse consultations including post-operative checks, weight management clinics, puppy and kitten clinics, and senior pet clinics
• Support the Lead Veterinary Surgeon with day-to-day coordination of the nursing team and clinical areas
• Mentor, coach and support Student Veterinary Nurses and Animal Nursing Assistants to encourage their professional development
• Assist with nurse training, inductions, and ongoing clinical development
• Lead by example, promoting high standards of patient care, infection control, and clinical best practice
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, and practice protocols
• Manage stock control, equipment maintenance, and efficient running of clinical areas
• Deliver exceptional client care and education to support preventative healthcare and treatment plans

Requirements

• Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
• Significant experience in clinical practice with strong medical and surgical nursing skills
• Experience and aptitude for supporting, mentoring or coaching colleagues
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• A proactive approach to quality improvement, learning and professional development
• Confident and knowledgeable approach to nursing leadership
