Senior Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This Senior Veterinary Surgeon position at Easipetcare Derby offers the chance to take a leadership role at a point of change, as the practice is set to be rebranded this July as Dovedale House. Salary is up to £75,000, with a welcome bonus of up to £5,000 and relocation allowance up to £5,000.

You will lead, mentor and support the clinical team, take oversight of complex cases, provide second opinions and help drive clinical governance, audits and evidence-based care. The role is full time, with either a 38 hour four-day week or a 40 hour five-day week, and includes one in three Saturday mornings from 9:00am to 12:00pm with time off in lieu.

The practice is based in Derby and treats dogs, cats and small pets, including rabbits.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and support the clinical team, including vets and nurses
• Oversee complex cases and provide second opinions
• Help maintain clinical governance, RCVS compliance and IVC Evidensia standards
• Support service development and practice improvements alongside the Director of Practice
• Promote clinical excellence through audits, protocols and evidence-based best practice
• Contribute to a positive team culture that supports learning, CPD and progression

Requirements

• Veterinary degree and RCVS registration
• Significant experience in small or mixed animal practice
• Advanced surgical and medical capability
• Proven experience mentoring, coaching and supporting veterinary colleagues
• Strong leadership, communication and decision-making skills
• Experience with clinical governance, audits and quality improvement
• Ability to manage clinical complaints and provide professional guidance in complex situations
• Professionalism, integrity and commitment to high standards of patient and client care

About the Practice

Easipetcare Derby is part of IVC Evidensia, the UK and Europe’s leading veterinary care group. The practice is due to be rebranded this July as Dovedale House, as part of the wider inspire vet care network rebrand.

The current team includes the Practice Director, one Veterinary Surgeon, three Registered Veterinary Nurses, one Student Veterinary Nurse, one Veterinary Care Assistant and four Receptionists. The practice has standard surgical and diagnostic equipment including radiography, ultrasound, in-house Idexx laboratory facilities, dental equipment and multiparameter monitoring, with external laboratory testing available via Idexx. Dental radiography is also planned later in the year.
