Twilight Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse for a part-time twilight position. Working approximately 30 hours per week across Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings (16:00–23:00), plus a 1-in-4 Saturday rota, you'll deliver advanced nursing care within a dedicated wards facility. This is a permanent role offering real scope for specialist nursing practice.

You'll support the daily case management of complex hospitalised patients during the critical transition between day and night teams. The hospital houses two primary dog wards, an ICU/high-dependency unit, and a separate cat ward, with an anaesthesia team available around the clock and dedicated specialists on call for each discipline. Your work will be genuinely collaborative, contributing specialist nursing expertise to multidisciplinary clinical decision-making and continuously improving standards within your discipline.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver advanced nursing care to hospitalised medical and surgical inpatients across ward-based facilities
• Support case management transitions between day and night teams during twilight shifts
• Contribute specialist nursing expertise to multidisciplinary clinical teams and emergency procedures
• Provide evidence-based patient care aligned with clinical governance standards
• Support post-operative recovery and contribute to the hospital's rehabilitation and hydrotherapy programmes
• Work collaboratively with the advanced nursing team and Veterinary Care Assistants to ensure patient comfort and reassurance

Requirements

• Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
• Significant experience in clinical practice with a keen interest in ward-based and inpatient care
• Experience working with complex cases in a referral or advanced-care setting is advantageous
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical governance, and continuous improvement

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is a specialist-led small animal hospital with a recent comprehensive expansion. The facility features a purpose-built theatre complex, a two-storey structure with large client reception and waiting area, 10 consulting rooms, and a dedicated rehabilitation centre.
