Veterinary Internship ECC

About the Role

This 13-month Discipline-Specific Internship in Emergency and Critical Care is based at Vets Now Specialist Referrals in Glasgow. It offers hands-on experience in ICU and emergency referrals, with day, back and night shifts built into the rota.

You'll work collaboratively with ECC specialists, supported by an experienced ICU nursing team and access to advanced equipment including mechanical ventilation, high-flow nasal oxygen therapy and therapeutic plasma exchange. The internship also includes dedicated time for study, research, seminars, journal clubs and organised teaching, with a clear focus on developing ECC-related skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the planning, diagnosis and treatment of ECC cases.
• Manage ICU patients and emergency referrals under supervision.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to support holistic patient care.
• Take part in seminars, journal clubs and ad-hoc teaching sessions.
• Contribute to clinical research projects alongside mentors.
• Work with ECC specialists, residents and senior nurses in an inclusive, respectful team environment.

Requirements

• A veterinary degree recognised by the RCVS.
• RCVS registration or eligibility to register.
• Prior completion of a small animal rotating internship or significant ECC experience.
• Eligibility to work in the UK, with visa sponsorship available for suitable candidates.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to prioritise, stay calm in challenging situations and work collaboratively.
