Veterinary Residency - Surgery

About the Role

This is an ECVS-approved Surgical Residency Programme at a specialist-led referral hospital in the New Forest. You'll train alongside experienced ECVS Surgery Specialists and Residents, developing advanced surgical expertise within a hospital recognised for surgical excellence. The role combines hands-on clinical work with mentorship, research, and professional development, offering clear pathways into specialist leadership positions.

Based at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists in Ringwood, you'll work 40 hours per week with day shifts between 08:00 and 18:30, plus a 1:4 weekend on-call rota. You'll manage complex surgical cases under supervision, participate in out-of-hours emergency cover, and engage actively in teaching, research, and clinical governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake a recognised EBVS (or equivalent) approved specialist training programme under supervision of a recognised Specialist
• Manage complex surgical cases as an integral member of the referral hospital team
• Participate in out-of-hours and weekend on-call duties
• Actively engage in teaching, research, and clinical governance activities
• Deliver advanced veterinary care across the small animal referral surgery service
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary specialists in Anaesthesia, Cardiology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Diagnostic Imaging

Requirements

• Veterinary degree and RCVS registration
• Eligible for, or accepted onto, an EBVS (or equivalent) recognised residency programme
• Minimum 2 years' post-qualification experience
• Completion of a rotating internship, surgical internship, or both
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Excellent communication and collaborative working abilities
• Reflective and self-directed approach to learning
• Resilience and adaptability in high-pressure clinical environments
