About the Role

This Veterinary Surgeon role at Kingfisher Veterinary Practice in Crewkerne offers real day-to-day variety, with work spanning routine first opinion cases, surgery and occasional emergency and critical care. The role also gives you the chance to develop your own clinical interests, whether you want to build confidence in a particular area or work towards a certificate.

You’ll be joining a practice that works across four sites in the region, so occasional travel between branches is part of the job and a full driving licence is essential. The main hospital in Crewkerne is purpose-built and well equipped, and there is a visiting orthopaedic specialist involved in more advanced surgical cases.

The rota is structured around sustainability, with 40 hours across four days for full-time, plus a 1:3 Saturday morning rota from 8:30am to 1pm on a sole-charge basis. Part-time applicants working 30+ hours per week are also considered, and there are no out-of-hours requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide first opinion veterinary care across consultations, surgery and emergency and critical care cases.
• Work across four practices in the region as required.
• Take part in a 1:3 Saturday morning rota from 8:30am to 1pm on a sole-charge basis.
• Contribute to more advanced surgical cases alongside the visiting orthopaedic specialist.
• Work collaboratively with the wider team across veterinary, nursing and client care support.

Requirements

• Qualified Veterinary Surgeon.
• Full driving licence, as occasional travel between branches is required.
• Interest in first opinion work, with consultations and surgery forming a key part of the role.
• Part-time applicants working 30+ hours per week will also be considered.

About the Practice

Kingfisher Veterinary Practice in Crewkerne is part of IVC Evidensia and has cared for pets in the local community for more than 100 years. The wider team includes 9 Veterinary Surgeons, 18 RVNs and a dedicated Client Care Team.

The main hospital is purpose-built and well equipped with video endoscopy, digital dental radiography, ECG, multiparameter monitoring, tonometry and a fully equipped in-house laboratory. A visiting orthopaedic specialist also supports the practice, giving the team access to more advanced surgical cases.
