Veterinary Surgeon - Mixed Animal

About the Role

This is a full-time position offering a rare opportunity to work across a truly diverse mixed caseload. Based in Northumberland at Robson & Prescott's Whorral Bank Hospital, you'll spend your time treating companion animals in a purpose-built facility, conducting farm visits across the region, working with equine patients, and handling export certification work. The role is structured around a 40-hour week across four days, with a guaranteed day off each week to support work-life balance. You'll participate in the practice's own in-house out-of-hours rota, ensuring continuity of care you've built with your clients.

This is not a sole-charge or unsupported role. You'll be part of a collaborative team of 27 veterinary surgeons with certificate holders across multiple disciplines, giving you access to mentoring, case discussion, and genuine peer support. The practice sits in beautiful Northumberland, combining dramatic coastlines, rolling countryside, and proximity to Newcastle with the charm of market towns like Morpeth.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality veterinary care across small animal, farm, and equine patients
• Manage a varied mix of medical and surgical cases in the hospital setting
• Conduct farm visits and build long-term relationships with agricultural clients
• Contribute to export certification work as appropriate
• Participate in the in-house out-of-hours rota to maintain patient continuity
• Work closely with colleagues across multiple disciplines to deliver excellent clinical outcomes
• Continue developing your clinical skills through supported CPD and peer collaboration

Requirements

• Qualified veterinary surgeon (MRCVS)
• Experience working in mixed practice with confidence across small animal, farm, and equine work
• OV (Ovine Veterinarian) qualification welcomed but not essential; training and support provided
• Not suitable for new graduates or those requiring a structured graduate development programme

Robson & Prescott Veterinary Surgeons is a well-established mixed practice serving Northumberland with a team of 27 veterinary surgeons and eight branch surgeries. The main Whorral Bank Hospital is purpose-built with four theatres, modern diagnostic equipment including ultrasound, ECG, endoscopy, and dental suite, plus hydrotherapy facilities.
