Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal

About the Role

This is a full-time, part-time, or flexible opportunity at Strathmore Veterinary Clinic, a gold standard cat-friendly practice serving Andover and the South East. You'll work with a close-knit, values-driven team that prioritises wellbeing and collaborative learning. The practice runs its own out-of-hours service, giving you exposure to a broad range of cases and the chance to develop skills in both surgery and medicine without the chaos of sole charge work.

Flexible shift patterns suit different preferences (early finishes at 1 pm through to late finishes at 7 pm), with a manageable 1-in-5 weekend rota. When on call, you're not required to be on-site except for 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturdays. Time off is granted following on-call shifts, and the practice offers a generous incentive for out-of-hours work.

The clinic is equipped with digital x-ray, state-of-the-art dental facilities, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, K-laser, multi-parameter machines, and specialist ophthalmology equipment. Many team members hold advanced certificates in surgery, anaesthesia, behaviour, and ophthalmology, and several trained while working here.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-standard patient and client care across a varied small animal caseload
• Work collaboratively with the clinical team on routine medical and surgical cases, progressing your confidence and scope
• Share clinical knowledge and support the development of nursing staff and colleagues
• Contribute positively to the practice's clinical culture and values-led approach
• Develop your clinical interests in areas such as advanced surgery, anaesthesia, behaviour, ophthalmology, chiropractic, imaging, orthopaedics, or internal medicine

Requirements

• Veterinary degree and RCVS registration (or eligibility to register)
• Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
• Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
• Proactive approach to learning, openness to feedback, and commitment to professional development
• Reliability, professionalism, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
