About the Role
Kessock Equine Vets is seeking an experienced Director of Practice & Clinical Services to lead its prestigious equine practice in Inverness. As the only dedicated equine facility serving the Highlands, the practice delivers 24/7 care to a loyal, diverse client base and now needs a senior clinical leader to guide its next chapter of growth and excellence.
You'll split your time between clinical work and strategic leadership, mentoring the veterinary team while shaping service direction and driving continuous improvement. This full-time role includes participation in the on-call rota, with flexibility depending on your background and preferences. Key Responsibilities
As Director of Practice & Clinical Services, you will have overall responsibility for the clinical, operational, and strategic performance of the practice, working closely with the Practice Manager.
- Lead clinical governance and standards across the practice, ensuring high-quality decision-making and patient care
- Support, mentor, and develop the veterinary team to build capability, confidence, and engagement
- Oversee clinical protocols, patient pathways, and quality improvement initiatives to maintain excellence
- Collaborate with the Practice Manager on operational performance, workforce planning, and service sustainability
- Contribute to strategic direction, including service development, investment planning, and growth opportunities
- Act as senior ambassador for the practice with clients, referring practices, and external stakeholders
- Maintain clinical involvement in equine cases, with flexibility based on experience and preference
- Participate in the on-call/out-of-hours rota as required
Requirements
- Significant experience as an equine veterinary surgeon, ideally with advanced qualifications (e.g. CertAVP or equivalent)
- Proven track record in a senior clinical or leadership role with responsibility for team support and development
- Strong financial and business awareness, with interest in practice performance and sustainability
- Demonstrated ability to lead, engage, and motivate teams to create a high-performing, positive culture
- Experience with clinical governance, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills
- Collaborative, values-driven leadership style aligned with clinical excellence and client care

- Salary: Up to £72,000 depending on experience
