Night Registered Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

This is a hands-on night RVN position within the Vet-24 night team at Village Vets St Albans, a well-established 24-hour emergency clinic supporting multiple practices across Hertfordshire. Working a 4-nights-on, 8-nights-off rolling rota on an annualised 33.9-hour contract, you'll gain genuine emergency and critical care exposure rather than routine overnight monitoring. Accommodation is provided during your working night block, offering practical support and convenience.

You'll see a varied and stimulating caseload across the hospital's full range of facilities, including on-site laboratory, separate cat and dog wards, theatre suite, and 24-hour inpatient care. This role offers the autonomy and structured professional environment needed to develop your confidence in out-of-hours and critical care nursing.

Key Responsibilities

• Allocate and manage cases with a proactive, holistic approach to inpatient care under the guidance of the Veterinary Surgeon
• Triage out-of-hours calls and support emergency admissions
• Assist with appointments, treatments and procedures
• Lead detailed nurse-to-nurse patient handovers to the day team
• Participate in the cleaning and maintenance of hospital areas
• Actively engage in CPD and further study relevant to emergency and critical care
• Work as a Tier 2/3 RVN alongside the Veterinary Surgeon to support effective management of overnight and urgent care patients

Requirements

• Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) qualification with RCVS registration
• Experience or genuine interest in out-of-hours and critical care nursing
• Proactive approach to inpatient care and emergency case management
• Strong communication skills for nurse-to-nurse handovers and team collaboration
