1:4 weekend rota worked as time off in lieu (TOIL)
This is a fantastic opportunity to work as a Registered Veterinary Nurse across five branches of Blacks Vets, a practice consistently voted 'Best UK Vet' and winner of the RCVS 'Wellbeing and Client Service' award. You'll be based on the leafy edge of Birmingham, with easy access to both countryside and the city centre, working full-time at 37.5 hours per week with a 1:4 weekend rota (worked as time off in lieu).
You'll join an exceptional multi-disciplinary team with nurses holding specialist certificates in Cardiology, Medicine, Surgery, Dermatology, Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic Surgery. This variety means you'll encounter a rich mix of first-opinion and referral-level cases, with nurses actively involved in complex procedures and able to develop advanced nursing niches. Beyond the hospital work, you'll also run nurse clinics in the smaller branches, building strong client relationships.
The practice culture is built on camaraderie and genuine care for its team. Regular staff recognition events, a Christmas party, and a strong emphasis on mental health support create a workplace where you'll thrive professionally and personally.
Blacks Vets is an independently owned practice with over 50 years of experience, recently acquired into the Linnaeus group. The practice operates five branches across the West Midlands and has earned multiple prestigious awards: twice voted 'Best UK Vet', 'Practice of the Year', and recipients of the RCVS 'Wellbeing and Client Service' award (2018) and 'Best Place to Work' (2019). The practice was also featured on Channel 4's The Interview and BBC2's Me and My Dog.
The hospital is exceptionally well-equipped with CT scanner, dedicated dental x-ray unit, referral-level ultrasound with dedicated scanning room, NHS-level laboratory, seven top-of-the-range endoscopes, multiple ICU incubators, piped oxygen, heated kennels and cattery, and feline-friendly facilities with Gold cat-friendly status at Dudley Hospital and three Silver ISFM-accredited branches. The practice is part of Linnaeus, a group that includes Antech and Anicura, offering extensive internal transfer and career development opportunities across the Mars Veterinary Health family.
