Join a forward-thinking practice group where high-quality clinical care comes with genuine work-life balance. This role offers a rare 4-day week, supportive multi-site environment, and the chance to develop across varied clinical specialisms.
1 in 4 weekends (daytime only, 8:30am to 7:00pm). Friday off following weekend worked.
This is a varied veterinary surgeon position across the Village Vet Cambridge network, primarily based between Whittlesford and Royston with occasional shifts at the Tier 3 hospital in Milton. You'll work a 42-hour week across four days, with one day per week offering sole charge experience at the newly renovated Royston practice. The rota includes one in four weekend days (8:30am to 7:00pm, daytime only), with Friday off following each weekend worked, creating a genuinely predictable schedule.
The caseload is split roughly 70% consults and 30% surgery, with one to two dedicated operating days per week. You'll have exposure to both community GP practice and hospital-level primary care, working alongside certificate holders in ECC, medicine and surgery. The diverse case mix includes dentistry, surgery and orthopaedics, supported by advanced facilities including a Storz laparoscopic tower, high-spec IM3 dental suite, digital imaging and on-site laboratory.
Whittlesford Parkway station is next door, placing the practice under 15 minutes from Cambridge, with easy access to London and Stansted Airport while maintaining a strong local community focus.
Village Vet is part of Linnaeus and Mars Veterinary Health, the largest family-owned veterinary company in the world. The Whittlesford practice is a modern, purpose-built facility completed in 2012, designed to support high-quality clinical care in a positive working environment. The building is spacious and naturally lit with high ceilings and glass-fronted areas creating a calm, airy atmosphere. Clinically, it is exceptionally well equipped with dedicated IM3 dental suite, Storz laparoscopic tower, digital imaging, on-site laboratory, two operating theatres, central prep area, and separate dog, cat and isolation wards.
You'll work alongside highly experienced clinicians including certificate holders in ECC, medicine and surgery, plus long-standing team members with extensive experience. The leadership team is focused on openness, wellbeing and continuous improvement, with protected lunch breaks, Fika and tea mornings, and a commitment to listening and evolving together.
