Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is an opportunity for a small animal vet with some experience to join a 14-vet team at MacArthur Barstow & Gibbs. The practice offers the chance to work on complex surgical and medical cases in-house, with support from experienced colleagues and visiting clinicians, so you can keep building your skills while enjoying a varied caseload.

You’ll be based within an independent GP practice that has a strong community presence and a genuinely collaborative feel. The role includes a 4-day rota with no OOH, plus a fixed day off, and there is protected admin time built into the day so you are usually away by 6.30 pm.

The small animal team works across the main surgery in Droitwich and two additional clinics, with a long-standing interest in developing clinical services in-house. Key Responsibilities

• Joining the small animal team as an additional vet with some experience
• Managing a varied small animal caseload, including medical and surgical cases

• Handling the occasional early evening emergency call window before Vets Now opens, usually for phone triage

Requirements

• You should be a qualified vet with some experience
• Interest in developing your skills across medical and surgical work is important
• Comfort working as part of a collaborative, supportive team is essential
• An appetite for learning from certificate holders and visiting specialists will suit this role well

Benefits

• Salary from £45,000 to £75,000, depending on experience
• Enhanced salary negotiable for an Advanced Practitioner
• Five weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays
• Flexible CPD allowance, with certificates supported and funded
• Professional fees paid for RCVS, VDS, BVA and one other
• Full-time vets work a 4-day week, 8.30 am to 6.30 pm, with a fixed day off
• No OOH, with all out of hours covered by Vets Now
• One 7 pm finish every two weeks, which is paid and is usually for phone triage before Vets Now opens
• Weekends shared on a 16-week rota, including two Saturdays and two Saturday/Sunday weekends
• Staggered consulting and operating times to allow time for admin and phone calls

MacArthur Barstow & Gibbs is an independent, vet-owned practice that has been established for over 60 years and has served the local area for more than six decades. It operates across four purpose-built premises and has developed from its mixed practice roots into a business that still combines traditional veterinary care with a broad range of more specialised in-house services.
