About the Role
You'll join Medivet Bracknell Easthampstead as Lead Veterinary Surgeon, guiding a supportive, established team committed to clinical excellence and exceptional client care. This is a full-time permanent position offering real clinical leadership and the chance to shape practice culture and direction. The practice has established interests in ophthalmology, surgery, and dentistry, and benefits from Medivet's hub and spoke model with close links to the 24-hour centre in Wokingham.
With a manageable one weekend in six on-call rota at the Wokingham 24-hour hospital, you'll gain exposure to fast-paced emergency work, complex cases, and advanced procedures while maintaining a strong daytime leadership role. This balanced schedule offers professional development without excessive disruption to work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and ensure exceptional standards of care, regulatory compliance, and professional best practice across the practice
- Mentor and support the veterinary team with clear development plans, coaching, and guidance
- Work collaboratively with the Operations Support Manager and Network Partner to drive clinical performance and shape the practice's commercial direction
- Manage client consultations, patient care, admissions, discharges, and clinical handovers; ensure accurate records and appropriate escalation to the 24-hour centre when required
- Deliver timely clinical communications to the veterinary and nursing teams, sharing updates on practice standards and process improvements
- Hold regular clinical meetings, mentor newly qualified graduates, and foster a culture of clinical best practice across Medivet clinics
- Oversee compliance with regulatory and operational standards, health and safety requirements, and laboratory protocols
- Support the Practice Manager in maximising commercial performance through effective utilisation of clinical skills and capacity; manage client estimates, costs, and debt management
Requirements
- RCVS registered veterinary surgeon
- Demonstrated clinical leadership skills and ability to mentor colleagues
- Strong track record of delivering exceptional clinical care and building strong client relationships
- Experience with progressive clinical culture and ability to implement best practice
- Understanding of commercial performance drivers and KPIs; ability to maximise clinical revenue and growth opportunities
- Excellent coaching, influencing, and communication skills
- Able to work effectively as part of a small, collaborative team
- Willingness to participate in the one weekend in six on-call rota and support the wider Medivet network
