Senior Power BI Developer

About the Role

This Senior Power BI Developer role is centred on enterprise-scale reporting, analytics and data engineering across Microsoft’s data platform. You’ll be hands-on across Power BI development, ETL and ELT work, platform modernisation and stakeholder delivery, with a strong focus on building scalable and reliable solutions.

The position also involves supporting migration work into Microsoft Fabric, handling competing priorities across multiple projects, and helping to maintain governance, performance and best-practice standards. It is a full-time, permanent role based in Watford, with a salary of up to £70,000 per year.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards and semantic models.
• Create scalable data models, advanced DAX calculations, KPIs and analytical solutions.
• Implement row-level security and reporting governance standards.
• Develop ETL and ELT solutions using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics and Microsoft Fabric.
• Build and maintain pipelines, data warehouse, lakehouse and data mart solutions.
• Support migration activity from legacy BI and data platforms into Microsoft Fabric.
• Work with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Mentor junior developers and encourage best practice across the team.
• Help establish CI/CD, version control and deployment processes where appropriate.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Power BI development and data engineering roles.
• Strong experience with Power BI dashboards, reports and semantic models.
• Advanced knowledge of Power BI, DAX, Power Query (M), SQL and data modelling.
• Proven experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics and ETL or ELT development.
• Experience working with Microsoft Fabric.
• Strong understanding of data governance, security and performance optimisation.
• Experience managing stakeholders and gathering requirements.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
• Desirable experience includes Fabric migrations, Lakehouse architecture, DevOps, CI/CD, source control, ADLS and Microsoft certifications in Power BI, Azure Data Engineering or Fabric.
