About the Role
This is a dual-purpose part-time position combining reception and animal care duties across 20 hours per week, with shifts including evenings and weekends. You'll be the welcoming face of the practice, managing client interactions from the moment they arrive, while also getting hands-on time with the animals in your care.
Based at the Lurgan William Street location, you'll work as part of a forward-thinking team at Medivet, a leading veterinary care provider operating practices across Northern Ireland and the UK, including 24-hour veterinary centres and referral facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the practice for opening and closing, including managing tills, card machines, alarms, voicemail and systems
- Greet clients on arrival, maintain accurate records, and provide exceptional front-of-house customer service
- Manage the practice appointment diary, ensuring slots align with team capability and best practice
- Triage emergency appointments and contact clients to arrange alternative slots where necessary
- Process repeat prescription requests and maintain up-to-date online practice information
- Handle payments and cash reconciliation with accuracy and responsibility
- Support animal care as required within the dual-role remit
Requirements
- Excellent client-facing and reception skills
- Genuine animal handling skills and comfort working with animals
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergencies diplomatically
- Experience working as part of a team and building positive relationships
- Strong numeracy skills for managing payments and cash handling
- Experience with online appointment booking systems and administration
- Reliability, trustworthiness and ability to prioritise multiple tasks
- Availability for shift work including evenings and weekends
- Previous veterinary receptionist experience (desirable)
- Social media or website content management skills (desirable)
