Join an independent practice in beautiful Northumberland with a genuine commitment to clinical autonomy, work-life balance, and team culture. This is a role where your wellbeing matters as much as great medicine.

Morris and Plumley is an independent mixed practice established in 2017 in Alnwick, nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just 2 miles from the Northumberland coastline. The practice caseload is predominantly small animal with some seasonal farm work (beef and sheep), but no equine. You'll enjoy full clinical autonomy with supportive colleagues always available to discuss cases. This is a full-time role with a manageable 1:6 weekend rota that includes Saturday morning consults, structured within a 6-week rolling cycle of five 4-day weeks and one 5-day week, giving you a long weekend (Friday to Monday) every six weeks.
Located in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, the practice is just 30 minutes from Newcastle and over an hour from Edinburgh, with Newcastle Airport only 40 minutes away. The team actively socialises outside work, with regular Friday drinks, sponsorship of the local rugby team, planned lunches, pub quizzes, dog walks, and an annual summer beach BBQ.
The practice is genuinely client and animal-focused, with 20-minute appointment slots that allow time to build strong relationships. You'll work with a team of six vets, five nurses, a kennel assistant, five receptionists, and an administrator in a collaborative, young practice that was built from a blank canvas with clear values from the start.
Morris and Plumley was founded in 2017 by Stuart and a co-founder, starting with two nurses and two receptionists and growing into a six-vet independent practice. The practice was deliberately built with a clear vision from day one, centred on providing exceptional first-opinion care based on clinical competence, case continuity, and genuine care for patients and clients.
The practice philosophy prioritises excellent service over commercial pressure, reflected in the conscious choice to have no merchandise in the waiting room. All team members are invested in the practice's success, and the independent status allows flexibility in approach, clinical autonomy for vets, and a strong family atmosphere where many clients are known by name.
