1:6 weekend rota with days off in lieu taken the week before and the week after.

About the Role

Oakmount Veterinary Centre is seeking a confident and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join its established clinical team in Burnley. This full-time position offers 40 hours per week over five days, with a manageable 1:6 weekend rota (days off in lieu taken the week before and after). You’ll be part of a supportive primary care environment where you can develop your nursing skills across a varied caseload while enjoying clear progression pathways.

The practice has served Burnley since its establishment, evolving from a mixed animal practice to a companion animal specialist hospital. With two operating theatres, dedicated inpatient facilities, and a specialist exotics department, you’ll work with modern equipment and an experienced team committed to ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care across medical and surgical cases
  • Run your own registered nurse clinics
  • Provide compassionate, high-quality inpatient and post-operative care
  • Contribute to patient care planning and the development of clinical standards within the practice
  • Work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team
  • Support excellent client experiences through strong communication

Requirements

  • Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
  • Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Good organisational skills and effective workload management
  • Proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement

About the Practice

Oakmount Veterinary Centre is an RCVS-accredited small animal hospital serving Burnley and the surrounding area. Originally established as a mixed practice dealing with farm and companion animals, the practice transitioned in 1998 to focus exclusively on companion animal care. In 2001, the practice relocated to larger premises on Trafalgar Street, tripling its floor space and installing two operating theatres and significantly improved inpatient facilities. The practice now operates as a 24/7 hospital with a dedicated exotics department, treating a diverse range of companion animals including birds and exotic species.
