About the Role

This is a full-time temporary position offering you the chance to step into nursing leadership within a purpose-driven, modern hospital setting. You’ll work a varied shift pattern across 37.5 hours per week, supporting work-life balance whilst contributing to a busy, collaborative environment where every decision impacts pet welfare and owner care.

PDSA Nottingham is a highly effective, well-equipped hospital with separate dog and cat kennelling, in-house radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, piped gases and extensive orthopaedic equipment. You’ll be leading a team of Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants, supporting theatre work, inpatient care and clinical consultations. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage part of the nursing team, supporting the Head Nurse to deliver efficient, professional and caring services aligned with PDSA policies
  • Manage Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants across theatre support, inpatient care and consultation delivery
  • Coordinate day-to-day hospital workflow, ensuring smooth operation and timely case progression
  • Maintain and enforce high standards of hospital hygiene, cleanliness and equipment management
  • Coach team members, provide clear feedback and lead by example in clinical standards and client care
  • Deputise for the Head Nurse when required, stepping into senior clinical leadership responsibilities
  • Embed Pet Wellbeing services across the hospital, fostering a culture of prevention, education and proactive healthcare
  • Work with clients to encourage appropriate financial contributions and explain treatment options

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with strong clinical knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated team leadership capability or clear potential to lead effectively
  • Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach
  • Strong customer service mindset and commitment to animal welfare
  • Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Enthusiasm for professional development and continuous improvement
  • Willingness to embrace varied shift patterns and flexible working arrangements
