About the Role
This is a leadership position in a vibrant, forward-thinking charity where your clinical expertise and people skills will shape the future of small animal care. The role is permanent, full-time at 37.5 hours per week with no out-of-hours duties required.
As Senior Veterinary Surgeon, you'll be the visible clinical lead, providing expert guidance, mentoring colleagues, and balancing evidence-based medicine with compassionate, practical solutions for clients in financial hardship. This role sits at the heart of PDSA's mission to keep pets and their owners together when times are tough.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead clinical cases and provide expert decision-making, supporting colleagues with second opinions and realistic treatment planning
- Coach and mentor junior vets and nursing staff, embedding high clinical standards and good governance in everyday practice
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help champion PDSA's mission and values across the team
- Work closely with clinical and client service teams to deliver joined-up, compassionate care
- Build trust with pet owners through clear communication of treatment options and realistic outcomes
- Participate in case discussions, drawing on the team's varied clinical interests to deliver best practice
Requirements
- RCVS registration as a veterinary surgeon
- Proven clinical expertise and confidence in small animal medicine and surgery
- Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to mentor colleagues
- Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
- Sound clinical judgement and pragmatic, evidence-based decision-making
- Passion for PDSA's charitable mission and commitment to accessible veterinary care

About the Practice
PDSA Sheffield is a modern, well-equipped pet hospital serving the local community as part of the national PDSA charity. For over a century, PDSA has provided vital veterinary care for pets whose owners face financial hardship, and is now expanding to reach even more families. The practice features separate dog and cat kennelling facilities, in-house radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, piped gases, and extensive orthopaedic equipment.
