Out of Hours Registered Veterinary Nurse

About the Role

Pennard Vets is recruiting an Out of Hours Registered Veterinary Nurse to join its established emergency and critical care team in Sevenoaks. This is a fast-paced hospital role where your nursing skills and clinical judgement will be central to patient care.

You will be working alongside the out-of-hours veterinary team, helping deliver emergency and inpatient care through the night. The rota is 9 shifts in every 28 days, and the role sits within a dedicated out-of-hours team that works closely together.

Key Responsibilities

• Triage emergency phone calls and walk-in patients.
• Monitor anaesthetics and assist with emergency procedures.
• Deliver fluid therapy and critical care nursing.
• Provide inpatient care across hospital wards.
• Monitor patient progress overnight.
• Support clear communication and handovers with daytime teams.
• Work closely with the out-of-hours veterinary team to support patient outcomes.

Requirements

• Qualified RVN.
• Interest in emergency and critical care nursing.
• Confidence using clinical judgement in a busy environment.
• Strong communication skills with clients and colleagues.
• Ability to stay calm and organised under pressure.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Enjoys working as part of a close-knit team.

About the Practice

Pennard Vets is an independent, employee-owned veterinary practice providing first opinion and emergency care from its purpose-built hospital in Sevenoaks. The out-of-hours team works closely together to deliver overnight care.

The Sevenoaks hospital includes three dedicated operating theatres, separate dog, cat and exotics wards, CT, X-ray and ultrasound imaging, digital cytology and in-house laboratory facilities, plus advanced emergency and hospitalisation facilities. Continuity of care is supported through close collaboration with daytime clinical teams.
