About the Role
Portchester Vets is seeking a confident Veterinary Surgeon to join their close-knit small animal team in Fareham. This is a full-time role across four days per week (38 hours), with one in three Saturday mornings from 9am to 12pm—and crucially, no out-of-hours or on-call requirements. Part-time applications are also welcome if you're looking for flexible working arrangements.
Set in a charming converted house within walking distance of the high street, the practice creates a warm, welcoming environment where you'll work primarily with dogs and cats, plus the occasional rabbit. You'll have the autonomy to develop your skills in routine medical and surgical cases while being supported by strong clinical colleagues and clear referral pathways when needed. Some sole charge work is involved, making this ideal for a vet who values independence balanced with reliable backup.
The practice has been a trusted part of the local community for over a decade, known for its friendly atmosphere and loyal client base. With well-equipped facilities including dedicated consult rooms, theatre, separate cat and dog wards with isolation, a lab, X-ray suite, and digital dental radiography, you'll have the tools to deliver thorough care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality patient and client care across a varied small animal caseload (predominantly dogs, cats, and rabbits)
- Manage routine medical and surgical cases, supported by digital X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, K-laser, and in-house IDEXX laboratory facilities
- Work collaboratively with the practice team of one other vet, four RVNs, and two SVNs to ensure excellent clinical standards
- Contribute positively to the clinical culture, sharing knowledge and supporting the development of colleagues
- Develop your clinical interests and skills while maintaining open communication with team members and clients
- Ensure effective referral pathways are utilised when specialist input is needed (visiting specialists available as required)
Requirements
- Veterinary degree with RCVS registration (or eligibility to register)
- Growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases within a clinical practice setting
- Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
- Proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development
- Professionalism, reliability, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Experience level: experienced practitioners or those seeking consolidation of skills in a supportive environment
Benefits
- Salary: Up to £75,000 DOE, plus welcome bonus of up to £5,000 and relocation allowance of up to £5,000
