About the Role
Pride Veterinary Referrals is seeking an ECVS or ACVS Diplomate in Orthopaedic or Soft Tissue Surgery to join their specialist surgical team. This is a permanent, full-time position on a 4-day week rota, offering a genuine work-life balance in a multi-disciplinary referral environment. You'll be working alongside ECVS and ACVS specialists, residents, and interns in a supportive atmosphere where your expertise is valued and your professional development is nurtured.
The role is based in Derby, positioned at the edge of the city centre with excellent transport links to major UK cities. The Peak District National Park is nearby, perfect for climbing, walking, and exploring outside of work. You'll be part of a shared on-call rota (supported by residents and interns) with typical working hours of 8:30am to 6pm.
Pride operates 24/7 veterinary care with a dedicated night team, meaning you're never carrying emergency burden alone. The hospital attracts complex, interesting casework from a wide catchment including Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied and complex referral caseload in orthopaedic or soft tissue surgery within a busy multi-disciplinary hospital setting
- Lead and mentor ECVS residents, interns, and nursing teams, fostering a collaborative learning environment
- Collaborate across specialist services (anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, cardiology) to deliver optimal patient outcomes
- Provide professional support to referring veterinary surgeons, including case advice and ongoing CPD engagement
- Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the surgical and hospital services
- Maintain high standards of patient care, client communication, and professional standards
Requirements
- ECVS or ACVS Diplomate (or board-eligible) in Orthopaedic or Soft Tissue Surgery
- Confidence managing varied and complex referral casework in a multi-disciplinary setting
- Interest in teaching, mentoring, and supporting residents, interns, and nursing teams
- Strong communication and client-focused approach
- Enthusiastic about supporting referring veterinary surgeons and contributing to their CPD
- Willingness to play an active role in service development and maintain high standards of care

Pride Veterinary Referrals is a modern, multi-disciplinary small animal referral hospital and part of IVC Evidensia. The practice is linked to Scarsdale Veterinary Group, which operates 10 sites across the East Midlands with over 300 staff. Pride itself employs 100+ veterinary professionals delivering specialist-led care across anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, cardiology, physiotherapy, and hydrotherapy.
The hospital features 5 operating theatres, a full imaging suite (X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound), and on-site laboratory facilities. Pride works closely with the University of Nottingham, hosting veterinary students on rotation through first opinion and referral services.
