About the Role

Provost Vet Group is seeking an experienced Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join its established team in the scenic coastal town of St Andrews. This is a career-defining opportunity that combines hands-on clinical work with meaningful leadership responsibilities—mentoring newer vets, shaping clinical direction, and supporting colleagues to thrive. You’ll maintain a varied caseload of consultations and surgery whilst playing a central role in maintaining the practice’s high standards.

This full-time role works 40 hours per week across 4–5 days, with no out-of-hours requirements. Weekend commitment is limited to a 1:5 Saturday morning rota (8:30am–1pm), with time returned in lieu. The practice is genuinely open to flexible arrangements to suit your lifestyle and commitments.

St Andrews itself is a stunning coastal town, home to world-famous golf courses, a historic university, and beautiful beaches. Just 30 minutes from Dundee and under two hours from Edinburgh and Glasgow, it offers exceptional quality of life alongside excellent travel links.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and direction to the veterinary team
  • Support, mentor, and develop new graduates and less experienced veterinary surgeons
  • Work closely with the Practice Director on smooth daily operations
  • Drive high clinical standards and promote best practice across the team
  • Maintain a balanced caseload of consultations, minor and major surgery
  • Contribute to a collaborative, supportive practice culture

Requirements

  • Qualified veterinary surgeon with strong clinical ability
  • Demonstrable leadership experience or readiness to step into a lead role
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine passion for team development and mentoring
  • Commitment to high clinical standards and best practice

About the Practice

Provost Vet Group is a modern, purpose-built small animal practice in St Andrews, part of IVC Evidensia. The practice is well-equipped with two surgical theatres, a dental suite with dental x-ray, digital radiography, endoscopy, an Imotek ultrasound machine, and a fully equipped in-house laboratory. The team includes separate cat, dog, and isolation wards, and the practice holds Cat Friendly Clinic status.

The team comprises six Veterinary Surgeons, six Registered Veterinary Nurses, and seven support staff, all working collaboratively to deliver excellent patient care. The practice actively encourages career development and will fully support and fund further certifications, particularly where vets have specific areas of clinical interest.
