About the Role
You'll join Rowe Vets Thornbury as a Registered Veterinary Nurse on a part-time basis, covering a 12-month maternity contract. This is a thoughtfully structured role that balances primary care work with weekend shifts at Bradley Stoke Hospital, giving you exposure to both general practice and a higher-caseload hospital environment.
Based in Thornbury, South West, you'll work 25.3 hours per week across three days: Monday (8:00am–5:00pm), Thursday (9:00am–6:00pm), and Friday (8:00am–5:00pm), plus a 1-in-6 weekend rota at Bradley Stoke Hospital (7:30am–4:30pm). Weekend shifts include one day off in lieu and one day paid, making the commitment genuine rather than punitive.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care across varied first opinion cases at the primary care practice
- Support surgical procedures, including anaesthesia monitoring and theatre nursing
- Provide inpatient care and manage patient recovery within the practice environment
- Work alongside experienced colleagues and veterinary surgeons at both the practice and hospital to ensure smooth operations and continuity of care
- Support the hospital team during weekend shifts, gaining exposure to busier, higher-acuity caseloads
Requirements
- Registered with the RCVS as a Veterinary Nurse
- Experience in clinical practice with developing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
- Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Good organisational skills and effective workload management
- Proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
