Ready to make a real difference in animal welfare? Join the RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre as an Apprentice Animal Care Assistant and help rescue dogs and cats rebuild their lives.
You'll join a dedicated team at the RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre, working with rescued animals recovering from cruelty and neglect. This is an 18-month fixed-term apprenticeship on a full-time basis (35 hours per week, 20% of which is dedicated to your Level 2 Animal Care qualification). The role includes a two-week rolling rota with every other weekend working (study time is scheduled on weekdays), running from 8:30am to 4:30pm with one hour unpaid lunch. Bank holidays are part of your schedule.
The centre cares for over 60 cats at any one time and maintains more than 40 dogs in state-of-the-art kennels. Many animals stay for extended periods while awaiting rehabilitation or court proceedings. Your practical, hands-on work will be physically and emotionally demanding, but deeply rewarding.
The RSPCA is a leading animal welfare charity operating animal centres across England and Wales. West Hatch Animal Centre specialises in rehabilitating rescued animals, offering them care, training and socialisation to prepare them for adoption into loving homes. The centre maintains excellent facilities including a cattery housing 60+ cats and purpose-built kennels designed for animals recovering from cruelty cases.
The RSPCA is committed to building a diverse workforce. The organisation actively welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly from underrepresented groups including minority ethnic candidates and people with disabilities. Reasonable adjustments are available throughout the recruitment process upon request.
