Join a supportive hospital team with an integrated referral centre, where you can build your skills across a varied first-opinion caseload and more complex cases. Rutland House also offers a 4-day week for full-time vets, with no additional Saturdays and dedicated night cover in place.
Dedicated night team provides inpatient and out-of-hours cover. Day vets contribute to OOH only for holiday and sickness cover, maximum 9 nights per year. One bank holiday per year.
This is a varied small animal vet role within a large hospital setting, combining first-opinion work with exposure to more complex cases. You will split your time 50/50 between the hospital and one of the branches, with an equal share of consulting and surgery, plus one full week as the hospital's inpatient-only vet approximately every two months.
The role suits an experienced vet who enjoys developing surgical and clinical skills while working closely with colleagues. Support is available from first-opinion and referral clinicians, and there is scope to build confidence in advanced soft tissue procedures and pursue a certificate.
Rutland House Veterinary Group has been delivering veterinary care for nearly 65 years. The St Helens hospital was established over 60 years ago and is described as one of the UK's first veterinary hospitals.

The wider team includes 130 people, with certificate holders in advanced veterinary practice, small animal surgery, medicine and radiology, plus advanced practitioners in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, dermatology, medicine and oncology. The group also has a network of 8 branch surgeries.
