About the Role
Scarsdale Vets is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join their established small animal team on a permanent basis, working across their Stapenhill and Hilton practices in the heart of the Midlands. This is a varied, clinically engaging role with the freedom to develop your own interests and specialisms. Whether you're drawn to surgery, medicine, or a particular certificate pathway, the practice actively supports and encourages specialist study.
The role operates on a flexible 38-hour week over four days, with a shared weekend rota and time back in lieu for all weekend work. The practice is genuinely committed to creating rotas that work around your life—whether that's school runs, personal interests, or simply protecting your downtime.
Based in Burton-on-Trent, you'll benefit from excellent transport links: trains connect directly to Manchester, Nottingham, and Birmingham, while the A6 and M1 put you within reach of Leicester, Sheffield, Leeds, and London. The Peak District is on your doorstep for outdoor enthusiasts, and Derby's cultural scene offers theatre, live music, and historic attractions.

About the Practice
Scarsdale Vets was established in the 1940s as a small agricultural practice and has grown into one of the Midlands' largest providers of veterinary care. The practice now operates as a multi-site group with a main RCVS Tier 3 accredited hospital in Derby and eight practice sites across the region, all accredited under the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme. The team includes experienced Veterinary Surgeons, a cohort of newly qualified vets supported through mentorship, and skilled Registered Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants.
The Derby hospital is exceptionally well-equipped with CT, MRI, advanced ultrasound, endoscopy, digital X-ray, dental radiography, multiple surgical suites, an onsite hydrotherapy and rehabilitation centre, and a multi-disciplinary specialist-led referral service. The practice actively encourages certificate study—many team members hold qualifications in medicine, surgery, emergency and critical care, ophthalmology, and imaging. Scarsdale Vets is part of IVC Evidensia, which provides access to a wider UK network of learning resources and professional support.
