About the Role

You’ll be joining Sheriffs Highway Vets as a Registered Veterinary Nurse, working full-time across a well-established small animal practice in Gateshead. This daytime role operates a 4-day week (38 hours) with 1-in-4 Saturday cover, giving you genuine flexibility alongside your colleagues.

The practice spans four locations—Gateshead, Whickham, Sunderland, and Crawcrook—and is equipped with impressive modern facilities: digital and dental radiography, flexible and rigid endoscopy, a fully equipped in-house laboratory, advanced ultrasound with Doppler, and specialised equipment for soft tissue, orthopaedic, and endoscopic procedures. You’ll be working with a clinical team that values collaboration and continuous improvement, where your contributions directly shape patient care standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct nurse consults and patient triage assessments
• Provide anaesthesia support and monitoring
• Perform laboratory and diagnostic work
• Prepare and manage theatre operations
• Deliver high-quality nursing care across a range of first opinion cases
• Support veterinary surgeons in clinical procedures
• Contribute to clinical standards and ongoing patient care development within the practice

Requirements

• Current RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse
• Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
• Good organisational skills and effective workload management
• Proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous professional improvement
• Team-orientated approach with enthusiasm for delivering high standards of care
