About the Role

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is seeking a motivated RVN to join its Internal Medicine nursing team on a fixed-term contract basis. You’ll be based at a modern, multidisciplinary referral hospital in Ringwood, Hampshire, working approximately 30 hours per week (Tuesday–Thursday 08:30–17:30, plus a 1:5 weekend rota covering Saturday and Sunday 07:00–19:30 in the wards). This 12-month position is ideal if you’re passionate about advancing your nursing skills in a supportive, specialist environment.

The role offers genuine exposure to complex medical cases and advanced procedures—from endoscopy to bronchial and tracheal stent placement—alongside diagnostic work, chemotherapy preparation, and blood transfusion management. You’ll also provide critical care to hospitalised patients, including emergency stabilisation and dedicated ICU nursing. Working as part of an established, multidisciplinary team means you’ll have mentorship from experienced colleagues and the backing of specialists across multiple disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily case management of internal medicine patients, including patient assessment and monitoring
  • Assistance with anaesthesia, diagnostic procedures, and advanced medical interventions (endoscopy, stent placement, bronchial procedures)
  • Preparation and safe administration of chemotherapeutic agents and blood transfusion products
  • Provision of nursing care to hospitalised medical patients, including emergency stabilisation
  • One-to-one ICU nursing care for critically ill patients
  • Collaboration with the team of 6 dedicated Medicine & Oncology Nurses and support from RVNs across other specialisms
  • Contribution to patient comfort and post-operative recovery protocols

Requirements

  • Current RVN registration
  • Keen interest in internal medicine and commitment to gold-standard patient care
  • Strong attention to detail and empathetic approach to patient care
  • Ability to take initiative and actively contribute to team decisions
  • Previous experience in a referral practice or exposure to complex medical cases is advantageous but not essential—full training will be provided by the experienced team
