One night on call per week and 1 weekend in 4. Small animal out-of-hours are transferred to a dedicated provider from Friday evening to Monday morning. Equine emergency cover is provided 24/7.
This is a mixed-practice veterinary surgeon role with around 85% small animal and 15% equine work. You'll mainly be focused on small animal cases, while also having the chance to get involved in equine work, especially lameness investigations, along with routine dentistry, vaccinations and general equine practice.
The practice also works closely with British Divers Marine Life Rescue to treat marine wildlife and has links with a local wildlife sanctuary. If you enjoy variety, there is plenty here to keep your caseload interesting.
The rota is a 4-day week, with working hours from 8.30am to 6.30pm and a set day off. Consults finish at 6.15pm, the phones go over at 6pm, and there is time built in during the day for admin, calls and lunch.
The Beck Veterinary Practice is an independent, family-run practice that has been established since 1946. Three generations of Beck vets have worked in the practice, and the team includes owner Simon, Libby, and Hugo, who joined as a new graduate in 2021.
The practice has a purpose-built building with facilities including a separate cat and dog area, digital and dental x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy and multi-parameter monitoring. For equine work, it also has equine digital radiography, dental x-ray capability, modern dental equipment and rasping facilities.
