Experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

About the Role

This is a varied small animal GP position with a mix of consultations and routine surgery. It is suited to an experienced vet who has completed VetGDP and is confident managing a typical first-opinion caseload.

You will be joining a friendly, close-knit team in a practice that values quality care, work-life balance and strong client relationships. The role also offers scope to develop your clinical interests while working with modern equipment and experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out a mixed first-opinion caseload of consultations and routine surgery.
• Manage routine soft tissue surgery as part of day-to-day GP work.
• Build long-term relationships with clients and guide cases from first consult through to treatment.
• Work alongside experienced GP vets Mark and Charlotte, plus the nursing and client care team.
• Make use of the practice's in-house facilities to support high quality medicine and surgery.
• Support a collaborative, close-knit team approach to patient care.

Requirements

• Experienced veterinary surgeon.
• VetGDP completed.
• Confident with a typical first-opinion small animal caseload.
• Friendly and collaborative approach to working in a team.

Benefits

• Salary of £50,000 to £60,000, dependent on experience.
• Full-time hours of around 40 per week.
• Flexible rota options, either four longer days from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm or five shorter days.
• 1 in 3 Saturday morning consults, 9 am to 12 pm.
• No out-of-hours, Sundays or bank holidays.
• 5.6 weeks' holiday including bank holidays.
• CPD encouraged and funded.
• RCVS, VDS and one additional subscription covered.

About the Practice

The Dales Veterinary Centre is an independent practice in Otley, West Yorkshire, and has been serving pets and their owners since 1982. It describes itself as friendly and close-knit, with a focus on quality care and support for one another.

The practice is well equipped and manages most cases in-house, with facilities including laparoscopic surgery, carbon dioxide laser surgery, digital radiography, dental X-ray and ultrasound with colour Doppler. Emergency care is covered by Holly House Veterinary Hospital, and complex cases can be referred to Paragon Veterinary Referrals, Swift Referrals and Vita Referrals.
