The Neighbourhood Vet is a busy 20-vet small animal practice in the heart of East Dulwich, serving the local community across a main hospital and two branch clinics in Crofton Park and Penge. This full-time Registered Veterinary Nurse role offers a rare gem in London: manageable weekend rota work with no overnight on-call.
You'll work 4 days a week (Monday to Friday, averaging 9.5 hours per day) with a 1 in 4 weekend rota (Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM-7:00 PM) plus a 1 in 8 shorter Saturday-only rota (8:30 AM-3:00 PM). A day off in lieu follows Sunday work. Critically, there is no OOH or Bank Holiday cover required. Part-time hours may be considered.
Despite being part of inspiring vet care (the UK's number one vet care provider), this practice retains its independent character. The team of 72 is described as close, caring, and fun, with a culture built on kindness, compassion, and doing the right thing for staff, clients, and pets.
The Neighbourhood Vet began as a derelict former art gallery in 2011. Founders Amber and Suzanne transformed the damp building into a modern, spacious practice with a comfortable waiting area, dedicated surgery, x-ray room, 3 consulting rooms, and separate dog and cat wards. The practice chose its name to reflect its commitment to being part of the local community, with a philosophy that vets should be approachable and create positive experiences for both animals and owners.
Located on Lordship Lane in East Dulwich, across from Peckham Rye Park with ample parking, the practice is part of inspiring vet care, the UK's number one vet care provider trusted with the care of over 2 million animals. However, it maintains its independent character and values: the team are passionate, experienced animal lovers who work in a happy, stimulating environment with regular training and course opportunities.
